SALA Sting A Information and Tryouts

Feb. 23, 2025

Hi,

We are excited to share the details of the SALA Sting A Program for U13, U15, and U17 players. Below are the key points about the program:

  • Team Composition: SALA Sting teams will consist of up to 18 runners and 2 goalies.
  • Red Shirt Players: We will accept 2-4 Red Shirt players. These players will be invited to all practices, receive Sting apparel, and may have the opportunity to participate in one or both of the tournaments if a roster spot was to become available.
  • Tournaments: SALA Sting will participate in two tournaments: May Long weekend in Saskatoon and Canada Day weekend in Calgary.
  • Roster Selection: Players who have previously rostered with SALA Sting are not guaranteed a spot on the roster. Evaluations will be conducted by independent third-party evaluators (Junior A Mounties), and the final roster will consist of the top-ranked players.
  • Player Removal: SALA Sting reserves the right to remove players from the roster at any point during the season if their actions, such as suspensions, impact the success of the team.
  • Practices: Practices will be held in various SALA communities, with a schedule provided to teams at the start of the season. Players are expected to attend all practices. Failure to attend practices may result in removal from the roster or reduced playing time in games.
  • Tryout Policy for Absent Players: We are committed to a fair and transparent player evaluation and selection process. Players who are fit to play are expected to attend their scheduled tryouts. However, if a player is unable to attend due to an “exceptional circumstance,” an email must be sent including reason for missing to notify organizers. Examples of exceptional circumstances include:
    • Sport-related absences due to participation in high-performance competition (e.g., provincial, national, or international championships in lacrosse or other sports),
    • Domestic-related absences due to critical family situations (e.g., death or illness in the immediate family).
  • Coaching Staff: Parent coaches will be selected following player evaluations. Non-parent Head Coaches will be announced prior to tryouts to ensure clarity and support for all participants.
  • Additional Information: Click here for tryout schedule, registration, and additional program information.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We look forward to seeing your player at the tryouts and having a successful season!

Best regards,
Scott McColl
